What We Do...
We make Lives Better -
Every Day!
“What is ComLinks?” people always ask. ComLinks is a preeminent
community-building, human-services delivery, and low-income advocacy network.
ComLinks, a Community Action Partnership, helps people to help themselves in
achieving self-sufficiency. In 2002, the Agency accomplished several of its
long-term strategies. In January 2002, through our Housing & Community
Development program, we opened the newly-renovated planned development,
consisting of 12 single-family 2- and 3-bedroom units in Saranac Lake. Helen
Hill is a unique public-private partnership with state and local government,
private capital investors and the banking industry. Spring 2002 brought the
opening of the Lloyd R. Richey Cooperative Gleaning Warehouse in Malone, a 5,000
sq. ft. warehouse designed to assist with development of a food-secure
community.
In the fall of 2002 the Domestic Violence Intervention program hosted a
successful two-day seminar for law enforcement, with internationally recognized
Mark Wynn as the keynote speaker. A complex business development strategy,
Microenterprise Development, created 24 new jobs and retained 74 in the North
Country. Neighborhood Revitalization received a $400,000 grant from the
Governor’s Office on Small Cities for the Town of Malone. This grant will
enhance the marriage of funds with our current Weatherization and RESTORE
grants—again, a successful partnership with local government. In December, as
the year ended, our long-fought battle to construct Affordable Housing in Lake
Placid was won and we broke ground. Our Family Development model of
strength-based service delivery ties all of the components together.
Our vision continues, bringing expanded services in Domestic Violence in the
Tri-Lakes area, additional affordable housing in North Creek and Malone, an
expanded food recovery system, and new business initiatives with our energy
partners and Microenterprise clients. Our Board of Directors generously and
willingly gives their time, energy and creativity to guide the ComLinks team.
Our management, staff and volunteers are the best!
